As the hot Texas month of August winds down, The Killdares' manager Harold Collum, Jr. has announced that the band's new album will be produced by world-class producer Ronan Chris Murphy. Currently living in Marina del Ray, CA...Ronan has worked with the likes of King Crimson (several albums), Steve Morse (Dixie Dreggs Deep Purple), Terry Bozzio (Zappa, Missing Persons), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Tony Levin

(Peter Gabriel, John Lennon, Pink Floyd)), Martin Sexton, Jamie Walters, Joan LaBarbara (Philip Glass Ensemble, Steve Reich) as well as various projects featuring members of Tool, Ministry, Weezer Dishwalla, and Yes.

Mr. Collum recently said how "Ronan and The Killdares have wanted to make a record for about the last 5 years, but scheduling differences would not allow it. Now we are honored to have such a great opportunity. The timing could not have been better."

Beginning August 22nd, The Killdares will enter Last Beat Studios (Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX) to complete final tracking for their 4th full length album...set for release on September 30, 2005!
7.15.05 Roberta Rast Recieves Invite to Compete at National Fiddle Contest

The Grand Master Fiddler Championship is a showcase for some of the best fiddle players in the world. This year the contest will be held in Nashville, TN on October 28-29th. Each year, the Contest Committee invites twenty of the top Fiddle Players in North America to compete as a Finalist in the contest...and The Killdares are proud to announce that their fiddler Roberta Rast has been invited as a finalist. Roberta won this event in 1992, and in previous years, contestants from as far away as Japan and Australia have competed as finalists.
7.2.05 Welcome New Bass Player Jim Dawson

The Killdares are pleased to announce the addition of a phenomenal bass player and multi-instrumentalist to the band. Jim Dawson has joined the line-up of The Killdares and will be featured on the band's forthcoming new album. Originally from Orange County, CA Jim's musical style (a cross between John Paul Jones and Dave Pegg) has launched the band's sound even further into the Celtic rock stratosphere of playing. With a tightness and an "in the groove" melodic approach to the music, Jim's bass playing prompted lead guitarist Brek Lancaster to say that "Jim is not only establishing an excellent foundation with Tim on drums, but his playing is also opening doors in the music which allow for much more melodic and dynamic writing." Welcome to The Killdares Jim. Let's Rock!
6.27.05 Happy Birthday Mr. Lancaster!

What! Another one? Yep...that's right. The 3rd birthday for a KD member in the past month. This one goes out to the band's lead guitar player Brek.
Wishing him all the best.

Today is the birthday of the band's fiddle player Roberta Rast. We are very thankful to have such a wonderful person and professional musician in The Killdares family. Have a great day Roberta!
5.16.05 A Fusion of Sorts For Sure...

Adding to The Killdares' list of national touring appearances, this past Saturday May 14th the band performed at The River Fusion Ice House all the way up in Bethlehem, PA with fellow Celt/mongrel rockers Brother. It was a wonderful fusion of straight up power Celtic rock by the KDs, mixed with the tribal mellow sounds of that didgeridoo/bagpipe signature sound that not many bands other than Brother can claim.

When asked his thoughts on how the evening went, KD lead singer/drummer Tim mentioned "how cool it is to be part of something where two bands who approach Celtic sounds from completely different worlds, can combine forces to create an even greater show for an entirely new audience. The staff and crew are excellent, and have really made us feel welcomed. We're very happy to be part of this."

River Fusion benefits the restoration of Illick's Mill. The Illick's Mill Partnership for Environmental Education is an innovative consortium transforming the City of Bethlehem's Illick's Mill into a community environmental center where they will establish a home for environmental action to preserve and protect the Monocacy Creek watershed and its abundant wildlife.
5.12.05 Happy Birthday Matt!

2.21.05 Studio Update: Recording for New Album Continues

After many hours spent in the studio over the past few weeks, five new songs are nearing completion. These songs have really started taking shape, and our goal is to release a new Killdares' album in the next few months.

In this pre-production phase of recording, the band has reunited with engineer/producer Chris Bell (Polyphonic Spree, U2, Erykah Badu, Fuel), who engineered/produced The Killdares' second album, "A Place to Stand". This time, the band worked with Chris at Luminous Sound Studios, a state of the art facility in Dallas with a wonderfully relaxed environment.

These new songs, mostly penned by new rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Dunning, represents an exciting new chapter for The Killdares. With veteran lead vocalist and drummer Tim Smith, the band has spent the past several months experimenting with a new synthesis of Celtic and rock rhythms, solid pop melodies and hooks to create a new eclectic Celtic sound. As we walked into the studio, the motivation to create something bigger and better than ever was huge!!

We are extremely excited by these new songs, and believe they project a sound that spans many levels at once. A key feature of The Killdares is still the lightning-quick fiddling by World Master Champion Fiddler Roberta Rast, along with Brek Lancaster's beautiful guitar licks, Stacy Edwards laying down some of the grooviest bass lines ever, and now with Killdares newcomer and journeyman bagpiper Matt Willis' unorthodox piping style rounding it all out.

While we are working on the new project, The Killdares will feature many of the new songs at our live shows. So to get a preview of what's on the horizon for The Killdares, get out to a show ASAP!!!

08.30.03 — And The Rain Falls Hard on The Killdares, KC

Regardless of the crazy weather at music festivals, The Killdares always seem to prevail. And sure enough…they have done so again this weekend. Slated as one of the featured national acts at the 1st Annual Kansas City Irish Festival, the band appeared on the CBS affiliate to promote the event…but were forced to make some quick adjustments later when word spread that the entire festival was shutting down due to extreme rain conditions. So as not to disappoint the die-hard fans who stuck it out, the KDs were moved to a tiny 8-channel tent stage. Faced with technical conditions that were well below the band’s requirements…they rose to the challenge and played one of the most incredible shows ever for the fans. Standing in 6” water to their ankles, the band will never forget shows like this, and are thankful for the support of all you stormtroopers!

06.12.03 — Alive at 5 Concert Series, NYs

In the furthest trip taken so far by the band, The KDs made a fast and furious trip up to Albany, NY this week to headline the “Alive at Five” concert series in downtown Albany. What a great event! The hospitality was top-notch, from the sound crews on up to the festival promoters. The band wishes to thank everybody who helped make this appearance very worthwhile. Killer stage…killer sound…just a beautiful part of the country. Here’s a quick road re-cap:
Lots of sightseeing. Lots of Red Roof Inns. Nervous Charlies Fireworks and Beer Store in Tennessee. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Niagra Falls in New York. Downtown New York. Ground Zero. Times Square. Subways. Lots of tolls. Lots of mileage on the van.

04.3.03 — KDs Appear on Dallas’ Hottest Alternative Radio

Once more the Killdares will break the mold and defy any conventions when they appear tomorrow morning on Dallas’ 102.1 The EDGE to promote their headline show that same night at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival in Dallas. The band will be chatting live and local with morning show hosts Jagger and Julie; and as of now they will be performing an acoustic version of their radio friendly song “Distance Between.” Celtic Rock on Alternative radio? Absolutely. It’s where the KDs belong. Tune in and listen.

03.15.03 — Atlanta, GA is the place you wanna be…

…if you plan on joining the band on St. Patrick’s Day this year. The Killdares have been asked by the original Fado Irish Pub in Atlanta to play for a special 3-day St. Paddy’s Day event. This is a great opportunity for the band, and will also be the first time they release some new tunes into the set: You can say you heard the songs first!

02.28.03 — Rock N Roll Jigs…and a Cowboy Mouth

Mark Lee/462 Productions and The Killdares are proud to announce the special appearance of the band with national cow-punkers Cowboy Mouth at Dallas’ famed venue Deep Ellum Live.
We guarantee this will be one of the few times in history where 2 lead singer/drummers will share the stage on the same bill. Not something you want to miss. This will also be the first appearance by the new stand-in KD guitarist Matt Rogers.

01.21.03 — Big Country says hello…

As many of you know, the band performs a cover tune “Fields of Fire” by the Scottish pop band Big Country (famed for their unforgettable ’83 hit “In A Big Country”). As many of you may know, lead singer of Big Country, Stuart Admason recently died. As a token of the band’s love and influence, The Killdares sent a copy of the LIVE CD to the Big Country bass player Tony Butler. The KD version of “Fields of Fire” on the LIVE album was specifically arranged and dedicated to the memory of Stuart. Tony has indeed replied, and was extremely complimentary of the KD version of their classic tune. The death of Adamson was truly a tragic loss in the music industry, and The Killdares are proud to receive such praise for their version of the BC tune.

01.1.03 — KDs Make the Critics’ Pick List

Austin Chronicle music critic Margaret Moser names The Killdares as

12.10.02 — Band to Appear on FOX4 Good Day

The KDs will be returning to the Dallas Fox 4 studios to promote an upcoming Christmas performance at the Ridglea Theatre in Ft. Worth, TX on 12.14.02. The crew and commentators here are always as nice as can be, so spread the word and tune in to watch the band do a Celtic version of the Ramones classic “Blitzkrieg Bop”…at 8:00 in the morning. Brief interview included as well.

11.15.02 — KILLDARES succeed at the State Fair of Texas!

Yes it's true. 120 shows in just 24 days. Once again, from Sept 27 - Oct 20, the KDs rocked the fair with 5 shows a day for the 4th year in a row. This was the debut run with new fiddler Roberta, and it was nothing short of awesome! Stationed on the Budwesier stage at the main entrance to the Cotton Bowl, the band played to thousands every day. Was very mighty! This year by far was the year that they saw the most turkey-leg eaters. Interesting. But, I tell you what...they still found a way to pound the ground during every set. Looks of puzzlement as always quickly turned to amazement when the crowd all realized that Yes! Rock n Roll does go with bagpipes. Who woulda thunk it? An awesome time indeed! Thanks to everyone who came out to support the band!

11.01.02 — Fair Fans Give the band a great nod

The band met thousands of great fans this year at the State Fair, all of whom have been extremely supportive of our new fiddler Roberta Rast and the band's improved sound. The Killdares thank each and every one of you and thought you all might like to read a few of the positive vibes sent our way by the fans:

“The new fiddler is such a great addition to the band. I have seen the Killdares at the fair the past 3 years (and some in between) and this new fiddler just brings so much to the stage, not to mention the fact that she is amazing when she plays! There was one song that blew me out of the water watching her play it, her fingers were moving at such an incredible speed and accuracy. I'd like to know where you found this girl. She's great! Just when I thought you guys couldn't get any better, you go and prove me wrong! You guys rock! Keep it up!” – A Fan

“We have seen the band at the State Fair for the last couple of year and became fans. This year, at the Fair, after the last set of the day, both of my sons got autographs from everyone on the band. They couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating to a couple of kids. Thanks for that. Keep up the great work and we look forward to seeing and hearing you soon.” – A Fan

09.27.02 — Killdares at State Fair of Texas for 4th Straight Year

This year marks the fourth straight year that The Killdares have appeared at the State Fair of Texas, the world's largest fair with over 3,000,000 visitors annually. The band has also been upgraded in stage location as well. Be sure to stop by the new Budweiser stage to see the band at 4p, 5p, 6p, 7p and 8p every day for 24 days. 5 shows a day! 120 shows FREE with admission. Stop on by and say hey!

08.28.02 — National Champion Fiddler Joins The Killdares

The Killdares, are pleased to announce that champion fiddler Roberta Rast, recent winner of the Grand Masters fiddle competition in Nashville, TN, has become the band's newest member. Ms. Rast, originally from Idaho, is a six-time National Old Time Fiddlers Champion, placed third in the 2002 World Fiddle Championship in Hallettsville, Texas, and has even performed on The Grand Ole Opry.

She was recently quoted as saying that:
"After several years in the competition arena, playing bluegrass and country music, I am very excited to join these guys. I love the way they blend traditional Celtic music with rock-n-roll, and am really looking forward to touring, recording, and all of the other things that go along with being a Killdare!"

Welcome to the family Roberta!!

05.30.02 — KDs Got Game

New big NBA gig confirmed... the band will be playing for the Yahoo Sports / NBA "Rhythm and Rim" event (a big, national event) on Saturday, June 15th, from 10:00-10:40 p.m. Location is in Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX on a large parking lot near Malcolm X between Main Street and Elm. Hurdie Burke, President of the Deep Ellum Association, is the one setting this event up and has specifically invited the KDs to participate in this. They are expecting anywhere from 60,000-75,000 people to attend this event over the two day period.

05.13.02 — Read First review of New LIVE album

Ray Dorsey of "Chaos Realm writes:
THE KILLDARES - "Live" CD '02 (Private, US) - I've been into THE KILLDARES ever since an online friend turned me on to them a few years back, & this new live release only makes me like 'em more. Blending Celtic music with no-holds-barred rock, they totally come into their own in the live setting, where their rambunctious fans are more than willing to urge them on. Present is a panoramic selection of material, ranging from some trads like "Clumsy Lover" & "High Road To Gairloch" to the band's own killer songs such as "A Place To Stand" & "Distance Between" to wildly varied covers of "Blitzkrieg Bop" & "Leaving On A Jet Plane." THE KILLDARES are just one smoking, helluva band, and if you thought their studio releases were good, wait until you hear this corker! Just a step or 2 behind the mighty 7N & B47 in the world of Celtic rock, & that's quite a compliment.

05.11.02 — Bowling For Kilts?

Yes...it's true. The Killdares have just performed their first gig at a bowling alley. Even more surreal is the fact that it was for the after-prom party for Bowie High School at a place called Funfest in Arlington, TX.

Never had the band seen so many people bowling in-sync to jigs and reels. Even cooler was the fact that so many high-schoolers were diggin' the new sounds of the band. It was very apparent that the band made many new converts this night. Maybe it was the 12-midnight start time that made it so enjoyable? Or the percussive “crack” of the pins? Either way, shouts go out from the band to the entire senior class. Thanks to everyone.

04.20.02 — The New LIVE album has arrived!

03.17.02 — Band Has 'Em In the Streets...Literally

The Killdares had twice the chance and twice the fun this week at SxSW. While many bands never make the cut to this world renowned industry event in Austin, TX, The Killdares performed to a packed house at the event...twice. The band literally had the crowd in the streets on Wednesday, March 13 at their SxSW showcase performance. Traffic literally stopped as hundreds circled around the band's roaming bagpiper and bass player in the middle of the street. Truly a classic moment!
Then the band repeated this performance to a packed crowd as they returned to Fado Irish Pub on St. Paddy's Day for another headlining performance in front of multiple industry and label reps. A special thanks to everyone who made these shows possible!

03.12.02 — Killdares Make SxSW Picks and Sleepers

Check out the Austin Chronicle this week as the KDs cut through the competition and get written up as one of THE bands to see this year at SxSW. Check out what critic Melanie Haupt writes:
"Dallasites love this band so much, if there were a category for Best Rock Band in the World, the Killdares would sweep the Metroplex. Last year's indie release, A Place To Stand, blends old-timey Celtic fiddle with all-American electric guitar. This is the group's SXSW debut, having graduated from playing non-festival St. Paddy's Day gigs over the past few years." (BD Riley's, 11pm)
