Roberta Rast has taught fiddle lessons for 15 years. She has been teaching in Dallas for 4 years and opens her studio to all ages, all levels, and most styles! All private fiddle lessons include a CD of your lesson material and guitar accompaniment during your lesson.
Location: Lessons are held in Dallas, TX near SMU.
Styles Taught: Texas Style Competition, Celtic, Oldtime, Bluegrass, Improvisation/Theory.
Fiddling Teaching Method: Lessons are formed around your goals for learning to play the fiddle, whether it be to compete in competitions, play in a group, learn your favorite artists songs, or just to learn the basics to play in jam sessions. . . your lesson will be catered to your goals. I prefer to teach by ear and supplement with tabliture method and recordings. I also encourage fiddle students to learn to read notation sheet music after they reach a solid technical understanding of the fiddle and have at least 10-15 tunes in their repertoire.

Transcribe Your Tune: Have a recording of a fiddle tune or a fiddle part within a song that you need help learning? Learning by ear can be difficult, especially figuring out the bowing. I provide this service through mail or email. All you do is send me an email with the tune name, how long the fiddle part is and I will email you an estimate. Depending on length and difficulty I can give you an estimate at $40/hr to tab or notate(whichever you prefer). Send me a copy of the tune or fiddle part on cd or tape along with payment. I will then transcribe the tune or fiddle part AND record the tune or part on CD at 3 tempos from slow to fast and mail or email it to you.
Fiddle Workshops/Group Lessons: Roberta also teaches fiddle workshops and group lessons around the US.
